Silicon Designs MEMS Accelerometer
Silicon Designs, Inc.(SDI)사는 미세가공 부가기술과 집적회로기술을 결합하여 고신뢰성 Capacitance형 가속도센서를 제조하는 Miniature Accelerometer Technology를 개발하였으며, SDI사가 여기서 시도한 니켈계 소재를 이용한 센서의 제작은 비실리콘계 MEMS(Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems) 센서로서는 상업적으로 성공한 최초사례 중의 하나였다. 이 기본기술은 1990년 대를 거치면서 당시로서는 첨단의 Single point air bag 제어모듈을 포함한 산업용과 상업적인 시험장비 및 항공분야에 까지 그 응용범위를 넓혀 갔다. 초기개발 이후 개량을 향한 꾸준한 연구를 통하여 가속도 센서의 감도, 적응성, 신뢰성을 향상시킨 결과 관성항법과 같은 전혀 새로운 분야와 고온환경에서 사용되는데 까지 이르렀다. 현재 SDI의 센서는 2g~1,000g 범위의 Full scale sensitivity를 제공 가능하며, 표준범위는 2g ~ 400g 이다. 10,000g 에 지속적인 노출과 175℃ 이상의 고온에 제한적으로 노출된 후에도 스팩상의 기능을 지속적으로 유지할 수 있다.
